Clarksville Youth Orchestra Fall Auditions to be Held at Austin Peay State University on August 29 – Clarksville Online

Clarksville, TN – Entering its second year with the Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University, the Clarksville Youth Orchestra (CYO) will have fall auditions on Monday, August 29 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Parents can reserve an audition slot for their children on the Fall Audition Registration page. Slots are filling up quickly.

The auditions will take place in room 147 of the APSU Music/Mass Communication building.




CYO is the premier orchestrally trained youth orchestra in the Clarksville area and is designed for string students receiving private instruction or participating in their school orchestras.

Students will perfect their ensemble playing and focus on beautiful sound production while learning orchestral procedures.

Audition Requirements

Audition requirements include a piece that demonstrates the student’s ability on an instrument, a major scale of the student’s choice, and sight-reading.

CYO will place students in the Melodic Orchestra or the Harmonic Orchestra.

The CYO will have its first rehearsal on Monday, September 12, and the last concert of the fall season will be on Monday, December 12. Rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. You can see the full rehearsal schedule here.

The CYO, like the Clarksville Children’s Chorus, is a program offered by the Community School of the Arts (CSA) and is available through a partnership between CSA and the Department of Music at Austin Peay State University.

CSA fall courses start in September

CSA offers a variety of art classes for children and adults, from beginner to advanced. Classes cover dance, acting, music, creative writing and visual arts. The Austin Peay Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts has operated the school since 2017.
