Jack Swanson and Michael Spyres to Launch Guild Hall and Bel Canto Boot Camp Artist-in-Residence Program and Series

Guild Hall and Bel Canto Boot Camp (BCBC) have announced the formation of a new program and series of resident artists who will support an emerging generation of opera singers and bring opera performances and programs to Community Engagement in the East End of Long Island.

Internationally acclaimed star artists baritone Michael Spyres and tenor Jack Swanson will kick off the 2022 launch, joining resident artists as masterclass mentors and concert colleagues.

Week-long residencies in the Hamptons, New York are paid and provide each singer with one-on-one training with BCBC coaches and space for role preparation and stage study on-site in East Hampton. Resident artists will also collaborate with the Guild Hall Teen Arts Council and other educational and arts organizations in Hamptons communities. Bel Canto Boot Camp will offer educational events before the recitals and separately.

Applications are open for summer and fall residencies. There is no fee to apply or audition, and Guild Hall and BCBC offer virtual options for non-New York-based singers.

The season kicks off with “Beautiful Singing: The Roots and Fruits of the Bel Canto Style,featuring guest artist Jack Swanson, artist-in-residence Katherine Henly and pianists Rachelle Jonck and Derrick Goff for an evening of opera, film, musical theater and song.

Performance date: May 20, 2022

In July, the organizations will present “The Love Potions: Bel Canto Arias and Ensembles, with resident artists Brittany Smith, Juan Hernandez and others, as well as Rachelle Jonck and Derrick Goff on piano. Artists will perform scenes and tunes from Bel Canto.

Performance date: July 30, 2022

Guest artist Michael Spyres will join resident artists and pianists Rachelle Jonck and Derrick Goff to present “Michael Spyres & Bel Canto Boot Camp: A Bel Canto Journey.” Spyres and resident artists will take the audience through the star’s favorite Bel Canto repertoire.
